In the document I am working with, every time I copy a bulleted list and then
paste it (in the same document) the pasted result has each bulleted item
changed to style Heading 1. In fact, if I make a bulleted list "un-bulleted"
and then make it bulleted again (using the icon on the toolbar), the same
thing happens! How can I make this stop?

The Bullet and Number buttons on the toolbar will always apply the most
recently used numbering format. What you can do is Reset the bullet and
numbering formats in Format | Bullets and Numbering.

Note, however, that a safer approach is to use paragraph styles when you
apply bullets or numbering. See
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/bull...olbullets.html and
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html.

When you are copying paragraphs, which style is applied to those paragraphs?

Thanks, I'll try to reset the format as you suggested. Then I'll read the
links.

When I copy paragraphs, I tested by copying and pasting a paragraph that was
Normal style. After pasting, it still has Normal style.

EDIT: OK, tried resetting the format. I selected some paragraphs, did
Format | Bullets and Numbering, clicked on the format I wanted, clicked OK,
The selected paragraphs got the correct numbering. I then copied and pasted
those paragraphs into another poart of the document. They still got the
Heading 1 style. (the result of copying and pasting the same paragraphs when
they are not bulleted is that they retain the Normal style)

I tried using the List Bullet styles. I selected some paragraphs, changed
the style to List Bullet 2. I then copied and pasted the paragraphs with the
result that the style changed to Heading 1.
