Cookies being deleted - Reason Unknown - Can't restore

Every once in a while, for reasons I'm not able to figure out and with no
apparent pattern, it appears that all my cookies get deleted.

I'm assuming it's the cookies since what happens is all the forums and sites
that I visit regularly no longer recognize me and I have to re-ener user
names and passwords. A real PITA sometimes.

I do regular backups so I thought I'd be able to restore the cookies but it
doesn't seem to be working. I found a folder at C:\Documents and Settings\my
name\Cookies but restoring it doesn't seem to have any affect.

Is there another location I should be looking for or is it not possible to
restore cookies or is it not cookies I should be restoring?

TIA for your help

Thanks, but I don't see anything there that would appear to help with my
issue.

are you using any system cleanup tools or registry cleaners.
they can cause weird situations.

I do have Registry Mechanic but I don't use it a lot. There doesn't seem to
be a correlation to a particular event. This may happen once a month, maybe
a bit less frequently.

Because I do backups about once a week that's why I thought being able to
restore the cookies would be a relatively quick and painless way to resolve
the problem. Would a system restore also put back the cookies? I never
thought to try that.
