I have two computers in my home and 1 of them is running Windows XP, the other is Windows 98. My 16 year old son stepped on my XP set-up disk, so I am wondering if I can download XP to a cd-rom, and apply it to my other computer.

No, but you can get a new XP CD from Microsoft. Check their web site.

I'm sorry, but you can't do that. Microsoft doesn't make Windows
versions available for download.

According to the license terms for Windows XP, you can't install the
same XP CD on two different computers. You need to buy another
version of XP to install on the Windows 98 computer. To save money,
get an upgrade version, not a full version.
