Well it sounds like what you did we techno geeks call
a 'dirty install', or you loaded XP over an existing
Microsoft install. The best way to do things, generally
speaking, is to start with fdisk, and wipe your drive
clean, and then let XP install clean. Then what you do is
reinstall all your programs - that is the best way. You
can save just your documents or files you created
beforehand, but that would be the best way. The way you
did it may cause you problems down the road, but is
favorable if you have older programs that won't run on the
NTFS file system. Good luck
