Occassionally when I pull up a saved Word document a window text message
appears giving me a number of options to convert the text file to....html,
text only, plain text, etc. I know it's encrypted but how can I get a
readable saved document.

Word pops up this message when it doesn't recognize the format of the
document you want to open (and Word recognizes its own format whatever you
call the documents). The implication here is that the document is corrupt.
Frequently the causes of corruption are saving to or opening from floppy
disc or e-mailing uncompressed documents.
