I need to convert a Movie Maker 2 file to some format that can be played on a
DVD player. So far my attempts have created a CD that produces various clips
that have the text that is too wide for the TV screen that I am using. I am
a newbie to Windows Movie Maker and am sure this problem has come up several
times for other members of this newsgroup. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. I have downloaded the TMPGEnc free converter and have Nero 7
Ultra Edition software.

Hi
I'm not sure what you mean by 'text' is too wide for my TVn

In a recent post someone explained to me that commercial DVD Players
'zoom' - ie cut off 10% of the video. If you have run text to the very
edge of the screen it will be cut off. You can solve this by ensuring
the text is not a full screen width.

The normal process I use is to:
Save the movie to DV-AVI format
Use nero vision express to create the DVD

Hope this helps

Hi, can be many issues to this, one being that the VCD
you created is, or has content in 4.3 ratio, but your
DVD player/TV set defaults to "stretching" to 16.9.
Try the menu's for your DVD/TV and select "auto"?
Is there a reason you don't burn to DVD?

Last August my PC crashed and Windows XP had to be reloaded.

At the moment I am trying to organise all my movie and photostory DVD's and
backup data DVDs and hopefully make a database.

On checking some of these DVDs I notice that any I burned prior to the crash
will now not play on my PC, although they do play on my DVD player and my
laptop.

Those I have burned since the crash play ok.

Anyone have any ideas of why this has happened.

Also I wonder if anyone knows of a good free Catalogue or indexing program
for CDs and DVDs.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I have no trouble making the DV-AVI file
but am stumped by the next step using Nero. I am using Nero Ultra 7 Edition
and when I go into the Nero Vision section, I am presented with a menu that
includes:
Make DVD
Make CD
Record Directly to CD
Make Movie
Make Slide Show, etc.

When I opt for the "Make DVD", I get a sub-menu:
DVD-Video
Editable Video

I opted for DVD-Video. This brings up still another menu:
Capture Video
Add Video Files
Make Movie
Make Slide Show
Import Disc

I guess I need to pick "Add Video Files?????"

I think I am going about it in the right manner? At this point I just took
the defualt settings to make the video. By the way I took your advice and
redid the video clips after adjusting the width of the text.

When I finally get to the burn point, I seem to be doing OK but get a "Burn
Process Failed" popup window.

Any ideas?

Maybe I should try to burn a CD instead of a DVD as I saw another member
mention that was the way to go.

Dave

Many thanks for the feedback.

I remade the video with MM 2 after first taking care of the text overflow
problem. When I convert to a DV-AVI format and then try to burn a DVD-R, I
get an error message ("Burn process failed."). However, I am able to burn a
VCD with the same DV-AVI conversion.

If you are using Nero - normally it also asks if you wish to retain a log.
