Hi all, i'm wondering if someone has perhaps come accross a
utility that can through alot of emails in a folder in an inbox and while
reading
through the mails, generates a word document of them. Reason: I am part of an
internal support group for a product and over a period of time i have over
5000 mails containing very good information. I would like this content
available in a searchalbe format not taking up space in my mailbox. (Corp
limits mailbox size and prevents pst creation and use) i do not want to
delete mails and cannot see myself doing copy + paste 5000 times.

Thanks

It sounds like you could benefit from a decent corporate archiving solution.
Or perhaps just an archive.pst?

Copying them to a word document would probably not include message headers
and perhaps attachments? You could even drag and drop the messages into a
folder in Windows Explorer. They will be saved there as .msg files and are
indexed by Desktop Search applications.

Hi William, there is an archiving strategy in place, however, in terms of
having the information available... the strategy perhaps is not the right
"tool".
header info being lost/omitted would be fine. Having the body of the mail in
a document would be first prize.
It would essentially allow me to search through the document/content for key
words and references fast and not clog my mailbox. I have also found
searching the mailbox cumbersome. (have to open each mail that is hit, ending
up with loads of open emails on the task bar) secondary issue though. Mailbox
space and a strategy to archive my "knowledge base" is the real issue i think.

Thanks

I think part of a good archiving solution is 'discovery' - the ability to
find things you are looking for.

I imagine there is a means to run a script to copy message body content to a
Word document. I imagine. But a good knowledge base is probably not a flat
file.

Try looking in www.slipstick.com to see if they list anything suitable, but
as per WL's post using word would probably not result in a usefull
searchable file. There are various data base apps that are specifically
designed for use with text.
There are a number of DeskTop Search apps, some are better than others,
personally I like Copernic DTS
