Converting DVD TS/RM files to PC Harddisc ISO, AVI, etc.. files

have created and edited some video footage on a dvd recorder harddrive and
saved it to dvd.
Now i would like to save the dvd files (TS and RM files) to my pc harddrive
in an format that can be edited and burn easily (ISO file prefered, but open
to suggestions).
what software do i require and is there a web idiots guide to this process
