in response to my earlier inquiry ...I did as instructed and renamed the
files, unhid the extensions so forth and it still says im trying to open a
DAT file . Ive tried to get the media player to recognize the files several
different ways but it wont. i can find the folder (contains 4 files) but when
i open it to add it it says nothing is there.I can open it manually by
clicking on it which leads to the "YOU ARE OPENING A DAT TYPE FILE " and so
on ,it has me choose a media player and then it plays...but never without the
4 step process each warning me that it is a DAT type file...Ive got several
burners(windows, roxio, nero and so on) but how can i copy it if it wont
recognize it as a video............the folder is broken down
CDDA-VCD-KARAOKE-MPEGAV .........mpegav is where the files are listed as
DATMUSIC01 -DATMUSIC02 and so on.....

i freely admit to being lost, confused and computer illiterate ...so someone
needs to help out this frustrated retard and show me how to fix this prob
(that i most likely caused in the first place).........thank you very much

PS i also dont understand why some of the vids and songs went back on the
comp but these ones wont be recognized as mpeg but DAT instead

Okay, you backed up to DVD, mpeg files that were on your original ME set up?
What software did you use to back up? Nero?
If so, then these are Nero's version of an mpeg .dat file, You probably
clicked
a wrong setting option during back-up, it's not a prob, you can convert back
to:
WMV/MPEG/AVI, via Nero.
This brief guide is for Nero StartSmart:
In StartSmart, select "Photo and Video" option
Then select: "Make Movie"
Import your problematic DAT files, follow the
prompts, select to make a file, opt for preferred format etc.
Good Luck.
