Converting bullets when changing templates

I am bringing in slides (Insert/Slides from files) from one client template
into another. Even though the bulleted text was typed into the text
placeholder of the old template, it maintains the old bullet formatting in
the new template. Even if I change the text to normal, non-bulleted text,
then copy and paste into a correctly formatted placeholder and choose bullets
again, the old formatting STILL shows up. If I were in Word, I'd select all
and "clear formatting." How do I fix this?

Did you maybe have "Keep source formatting" ticked when you inserted from file?

No. Some of the slides formatted correctly, and some didn't. When I
right-clicked on the ones that didn't, though, it said "format placeholder"
instead of "format text box," so I know the text wasn't typed into a text
box. Strange and frustrating.
