Cannot get DVD's to play on stand alone recorder/player. I have tried several
different formats and converter software without any success. What format
is needed to play avi on vcr player? What program should I use to convert it?

Thanks

VCR? I'm guessing you mean DVD player?

Some stand alone DVD players will not
play a home made DVD...there's nothing
you can do about that. But...assuming yours
will play one...you need to create a Video
DVD...not a Data DVD.

Possible authoring software choices may
be...Nero, Roxio, Ulead, WinDVD, ProShow
Gold...etc....

The main thing is that your choice of authoring
software is compatible with .avi files.

Good luck...

Data DVDs? Just wondering...if you
explore the completed DVD what file
formats do you find?

Just divx extensions. We have a Philips DVP-642 and a Philips DVP-5960.
You can fit half a standard 22 epsiode season on a data DVD and they play
beautifully.

Get something cheap... the cheaper ones can easily be persuaded to play all
Region disks as well.... it seems the more expensive the player, the harder
that part is!
