I have 908 files I need to convert. I used the covert function and only got
200 to convert to vfile. I need those files. Will converting them to excel
and importing them into 2007 work? Be gentle, I don't post often and DID
check all posts. Some of you are ROUGH, lol. I really need your help!! (I
don't dare ask about appointments)

You have 908 SEPARATE .PAB files? Or 908 address items inside those PAB
files?

Ah. Well Outlook 2007 should let you import those fairly directly.
File | Import and Export | Import Internet Mail and Addresses...

I wish. It imported 200 of them. Only the newer Vcards. Not helpful. I
need to know, if anyone knows, if I can export the 2003 files to excel (I
know I can do this) then IMPORT them to 2007 by matching fields (as you could
do in other versions of OL. I can't find a reference and I don't want to try
with a large file and I don't want to have to reinstall. It always leaves
nasty crumbs of application files everywhere.
Thanks
Jan

Do you still have the original .PAB files? You shouldn't need to do
anything with vCards - just directly import from the .PAB.

I'm not making myself clear. I have 900+ entries in my 2003 outlook
contacts. They are *.pab file format. When I installed Outlook 2007 the
conversion took place but the only contacts that converted were approx. 200
contacts which were newer, PRESUMED vCard files, because they all appreared
to be my corporate contacts and none of my person friends, family etc. I
tried a manuel conversion and the same thing happened. Therefore, the
conversion is not occuring for the majority of my contacts. THUS I NEED
ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE. I assume when people ask for help here, the standards
have been tried. I'm looking for something else. For example, I'm
interested in knowing about the possibility of the Excel conversion. Anyone
know? Thanks
Jan

Well, you’re still not making yourself clear. :-)

A .PAB file is a Personal Address Book. There generally is no need to
have more than one or two of them.

What you have, I'm guessing, is a single .PAB file that contains 900+
entries. A .PAB file is NOT the Outlook Contacts folder. If you have
an Outlook Contacts folder that is stored in a .PST file. You may ALSO
have a .PAB file as an address book. Furthermore .PAB files do not
contain vCards - a vCard is a file format of its own for transmitting
contact data between users - sort of like an electronic business card.
It's possible, I suppose, that you used Outlook 2003 with a .PAB file
created in an earlier version (though that is not the recommended way to
do it) and that you received vCards from people and added that
information (but not the vCard itself) to the .PAB file; though that
sounds pretty odd to me.

So...trying to untangle this...

Are your 900+ entries in the Outlook 2003 Contacts folder? Or are they
in the Outlook 2003 ADDRESS BOOK (not the same thing as the Contacts
folder) which could be a .PAB file?

I doubt that vCard has anything to do with this; it's a whole separate
file format. It's possible, I suppose, that you have a bunch of
individual vCard files laying around but that's incidental to a .PAB
file.

Finally - never assume that when people ask for help here that they have
tried anything at all. In fact quite a few of our posters haven't tried
anything, Googled anything or read anything. There is way for me to
know what you have or have not tried (especially when your terminology
doesn't make sense) and if I were to assume you've already tried the
things that should work then I'd spend a lot more time spinning my
wheels. If you don't specify that you did it, I'll have to ask if you
did.

So...the questions on the table - just trying to be very clear here:

* The file which you say contains 900+ entries. Is that a .PAB file?
Or is that a .PST file? Was it your Outlook 2003 CONTACTS folder or
your Outlook 2003 ADDRESS BOOK?

Ben,

I appreciate you dedication to trying to help me, but now I'm totally
confused. My *.pst file is my file folders not my address book and not my
contacts. It holds all my files of all my EMAIL, not my contact information.
I don't want that information transfered. I began saving contact/address in
Windows 97 and have carried it through 98, ME (ARG) and the present XP and
have snyc'd it with a palm os and now with my iPac. When I save my ADDRESSES
to move them in a clean fashion or if I get dups and want to start over, my
override or back up is a *.PAB. That is my ADDRESSES and where I get the
information I now what on my Windows 2007 in contacts so I can sync my new
blackberry. My office PC (where my *.PAB file is) won't let me use a
blackberry, so I have to get it on my home PC which runs Window 2007. I can
see a lot of typing in my future.
