PLEASE tell me how to convert any musioc file format to MP3 (or other format
that
Windows Media Player will play.

(It would also be helpful if anyone could tell me how to reset Preferences
in Windows XP Professional.)

I purchased iTunes music - which downloaded in an MPEG-4 format. Windows
Media Player will not play it. So I went to itunes information and found:
"About
third-party music players and AAC file support". The instructions read "To
convert....to another format, such as MP3: etc etc (which Media Player will
play).

It told me: "On Windows, choose Edit>Preferences, etc., etc.

How / Where does one locate "Windows" then locate "Edit>Preferences?

Or, just please tell me how to convert any file format to MP3 (or other
format that Windows Media Player will play).

It would also be helpful if anyone could tell me how to reset Preferences in
Windows XP Professional.

Thanks to anyone!

I entered "convert mpeg4 mp3" into that well-known and popular Web search
engine Google and got ~228,000 results.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...peg4+mp3&meta=

Or you could play your music files directly with a program that will support
them, such as WinAmp.

Really need the full context here - the detail of what these instructions
said. What program are they talking about? If it's utterly unclear, you
should revert to whooever is the provider of this "itunes information" for
assistance. There's no "Edit" item on the menu of my Windows Media Player,
thought there might be on different versions (though I doubt it) - you
haven't said which version you're running.

Do you have iTunes? (If not, consider installing it -- the interface
is IMHO far better than WMP's interface, and iTunes handles more
formats.)

In iTunes, click Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Importing and select
Import Using: MP3 Encoder. Then in the Library select one or more
tracks, right-click, and select Convert Selection to MP3. The
original selections won't be harmed, but MP3 versions will be created
alongside.

Remember to change the Import Using setting back to AAC.

As far as converting to MP3 there are a number of programs that do it. Just
go to Google and search "convert+MP3"
