How to convert DVD vob files to a mpeg 2 file?

I've already said that there ARE no longer any free apps which can do this.
As for the old version of VirtualDUB, there used to be a link to it on
www.dvdrhelp.com but this program cannot read VOB's so you would need to
convert to an AVI first anyway. No matter what you do, you are going to
HAVE to use an intermedia conversion format to go from VOB to WMV (which is
a sucky format IMHO anyway).

Maybe you should reevaluate what you actually want to DO with the files....

The www.dvdrhelp.com XviD guide with all it's links is 40 pages long and
uses about 4 separate programs. Is there an easier way to compress a not
copyrighted DVD to a 700 mb file?

It's that size because they show you how to do it using lots of different
programs. Just pick the section most relevant to you... One of the
simplest method is to use a program called Vidomi which will take your VOB's
and give you an AVI, once you've configured all the options... Again, there
should be a guide for this on that site, as well as download links.

Personally, I use DVD2AVI myself as Vidomi, although good, is really aimed
at the beginner... You'll get much better results doing it the long and
complicated way.

No one ever said doing this is easy...

Look for a product called HEURIS Xtractor. http://www.heuris.com this program
will extract the MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio from a VOB file. It doesn't do any
recompression, just de-vobs the MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio..

The Pinnacle "Instant Copy." transfers DVD content to VCDs and SVCDs=to mpeg
1 and mpeg 2. I want to compress to mpeg4 or WMV.
