Is there a method for converting drive letters into UNC path names?

I want to refer to my drives by UNC pathnames so devices can remain
the same even when drive letters change, so long as their positions in
the IDE channels remain the same. Does Win2000 have such an option?

well, kind of, maybe, depends on who wants to use it i think. UNC paths are
defined as \\computername\sharename so you could share each drive and give
it a name independent of the windows drive letter. i am not sure that unc
paths will work with all software though and probably won't work with
windows services and lower level stuff... those will still be tied to the
drive letters. in win2k you do have more control over assignment of drive
letters than in previous 95/98/me versions. you can go in with the
administrative tools and reassign drive letters for all drives except the
boot drive. also i don't think the ide channels control the drive letter
assignments. i have moved drives from one controller to another and from
one position on a cable to another without changing their letters.
