Dear Sir:

OS = XP
OL = 2003
Ram = 2 gig

I have a large number ( 40) of old *.pst files that I am trying to open
and convert to the new Unicode ( OL 2003). However I am
running into the classic "out of resources" issues. I did manage
to open 4 of the old *.pst files and drag and drop the folders
to a new *.pst ( OL 2003 version).

The info is valuable to me since it contains files, photos, database
and correspondence that is signficant to me.

Microsoft knowledge base has a couple of articles that cover
this by saying that it is a known problem. due to changes in the
amount of cache allocated in OL 2003 ( not sure if it also applies
to OL 2007).

I've completed the hotfix recommended in the article below with
no joy.

Has anyone developed or know of any work arounds ( software)
or other email programs to be able to convert these old *.pst or at
least bring them into the OL 2003 program so they can be retrieved?

MS Knowledge Base:
When you try to add lots of .pst files to your e-mail profile in Outlook
2003, some of the .pst files may not be added

Are you saying if you have the old pst's open you get the error, or only
when you drag & drop to the new pst?
This happens if you only open a single old one?

DL:

I already have 4 "old *.pst folders that have been converted to "new"

*.pst by using the process of:

a: create a new *.pst

b: Open the old *.pst

c: drag and drop the folders from the old pst ( OL 2000) to the

new pst ( OL 2003)

That seems to be the limit.

I have now:

a: created a new *.pst ( no 5) ( Unicode format)

b: opened a old pst (OL 2000 version) Ansi formt

c: when I try to drag and drop : the warning of "out of resources and memory

please close some files etc etc"

I can not open any of the folders at that point ( just to read) the same
warning comes up so need to then do a "remove" function on some of the
*.pst.

The issue appears to be the amount of cache that is used on the new *.pst
according to what I read on the MS Knowledge base. I am surprised that it
( OL 2003) takes up that much cache.

I guess that one more work around would be to increase the size of the cache
( XP) some more?

Best Regards
