In the past converted an application written in an old (<2005) VS to VS
2005. Of the application I would like to change the layout. But it would
appear that layout issues were fixed during the conversion. Whatever I do,
I cannot change the layout. Even if I put in a line to change the background
colour of a form to pink nothing happens. What is in the constructor has no
influence on the lay out. What can I do to overcome this problem? It would
be too much work to completely rewrite the application.

Is this a Windows Forms application? If so, there should be a region titled
"Windows Form Designer generated code" or something similar. If the form
isn't totally packed with controls, post the code from that region here.
Indicate which line you added/changed to try to change the background color.

I should like to add that during the same period in the past I wrote another
program, that was also converted to a later version of VS, a VS version in
which the formatting is put into a separate file. When I change display
colors in that application I don't encounter any problems at all. So there
must be some way to fix the problem, other than exporting the formatting
code.
