Hi,

Is it possible to control a Windows 7 box (a media server) from
an XP box? The XP laptop acts as the keyboard and monitor for
the Windows 7 box over a wireless LAN. It would be helpful if
the Windows 7 box boots in the needed state.

You could use Remote Desktop if your flavour of Windows 7 supports it. If
not then third-party products such WinVNC or TeamViewer would work too.

Mikogo might be a better choice than TeamViewer in that a) It requires
nothing to be loaded on the remote computer, and b) It is free for even
commercial use.

TeamViewer is great since it requires no installation. However, it has a
couple of drawbacks:
- Depending on the screen resolution of the two machines, the remote session
is sometimes displayed in very small and hard to read letters.
- Contrary to what you think, it is not free for commercial use. It is
actually quite expensive. Here is the relevant line from their main page:
"Commercial users are welcome to use these downloads for trial purposes.
TeamViewer is free for all non-commercial users!"

This leaves little room for interpretation.
