I have a problem that I know may have many causes but in case there's an
XP solution, I'm asking about it here. I cruelty's bought a new PC put
together at a local computer store. Every 2-3 times I start the
computer, the screen resolution changes from 1024 x 768 to
800 x 600 without being asked. I dutifully set it back to where I want
it, use the system and then shut down. The next time I start it, the
resolution is changed at least half of the time. Is there an XP way to
solve this? Thanks.

Check for updated drivers for the monitor and the graphics card. Also
try this:
