      11th Apr 2004
Put a new hard drive in compaq 5050. installing win 2000. form win 98. Get
message 1782 disk controller failure. Does this pertain to mother
board.

Is the disk controller integrated? Are you running the latest BIOS?

The answer to both questions is yes, Sorry about the delay, my son is
working on this and I had to get with him.

If the disk controller is integrated then it points to the mother board. I
do not believe the controller alone can be replaced but it's not definite
that it is the controller.

Can you try the drive in a different system or try a different drive in that
system?
