Control Panel - Program Removal

I am trying to install the latest version of a program and to do so I have
to completely remove the earlier version. This earlier version is now
completely removed but one component is still shown on the Control Panel
list of programs.

When I try to remove this component from the list I am told that there is no
such program now on my computer and the item remains on the list.

The program will not reinstall and this appears to be because it detects the
component in the Control Panel list, even though there is no program
associated with this item.

How can I remove this ghost item from the Control Panel list? I am running
XPpro with SP2

How about trying to go to

Windows XP Hard Drive... e.g C:
Then go to Program Files
And find what Program you are looking for, and delete it/the folder if you
want and delete it from the recycle bin aswell.

I would suggest that you contact the technical support people for your
anonymous mystery program.
