When clicking on control panel nothing happens. My computer seems to freeze
and I have to reboot. Everything else works when opening a program. There is
another problem. I have to seen my auto updates for a long time (months) and
I am sure I should be getting some updates to my system from MS. The last
problem I have noticed is when I went to MS website and tried to install
Silverlight nothing happens either. I built this machine about 4 years ago.
My XP disk is an older version. Any help would be apprecitated greatly.

Thanks in Advance

Its really difficult to know the cause for your problem without physically
examining the machine.Go with basic troubleshooting steps.

1.Boot to safe mode.Press (F8 when you see windows xp logo on boot)
2.Disable all start up items.(start - run - msconfig - startup tab - press
diable all)
3.Uninstall unwanted programs.(start - control panel - Add/Remove programs)
4.Run disk cleanup.(Start - run -cleanmgr.exe)
5.Run check disk.(Start - run - chkdsk)
6.Scan your computer for virus /Spyware/Malware.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum (NOT here).
