Control Panel (Again)

When I open Control Panel, it opens up in folder (tree) view - If I go to the
standard buttons bar, "Folders" is checked. If I click on "Folders" to
uncheck it, the Control Panel goes back to just showing Control Panel icons
with the "blue frame" on left, which is the way I want it. The problem is
that when I uncheck "Folders", that view isn't remembered. The next time I
open Control Panel,
the folders are all shown in the left pane again. I have "remember each
folder's view settings" checked.

On previous advice, I ensured the default folder action (Tools\Folder
Options\File Types\[NONE] File Folder) was set to "open". I've tried setting
to "explore" and back to "open" but not matter what is chosen, the control
always opens up in folder view.

Further help appreciated.

Try this:
Set the view the way you want it. Hold the Ctrl key, then left click the
close button (red X) on the top right. It should remember the last view
setting.

nass,

I performed your instructions but alas to no avail. Still opening up in
folder view. This really is baffling. Their must be a setting (registry?)
effecting this.

lRay,

Thanks for responding once again. I performed your "tip" both by closing on
"x" and via file\close with control key pressed. As indicated to nass, this
really is baffling. There must be a setting (registry?) effecting this. Any
additional help always appreciated.

How to modify your folder view settings or to customize a folder
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812003
Control Panel- View/Explorer Bar/Folders
http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/arc...hp?t-5422.html

Control Panel Icons
http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk/bc/bcs4p6.html
Run this command:
sfc /scannow
NOTE: if you have a security software that been set to block any changes to
Explorer it can cause this so check your security software that is running in
real time protection mode and disable it then make your changes and Reboot
and Renable the real time protection!.

nass,

I've turneded off my AV and firewall to check and also ensured windows
defender real time protection off. Still same. I've nothing else that's
starts up when windows starts

Perhaps need to expand problem area as it's not just contol panel. If I
open windows explorer for example it opens in folder view. I can't get it to
do otherwise (this is one that I want to open in folder view). My Computer,
Network Places or whatever I chose to open will only ever open in folder view

What Happen If you clicked Tools >> Folder Options and unchecked this box
does it help:
[ ] Restore previous Folder windows at logon
[ ] show Control panel in My Computer.

Use Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

Try this work around
Open a folder. Click Tools, Folder Options, View and click "Reset All
Folders". Close the folder. Open and customize the folder again. Click View,
Apply to All Folders

ey,

Thanks again for tip but unfortunately it didn't work.

**** One VERY interesting point to note........

I have the "My Computer" and "My Network Places" icons on the Desktop. If I
open from here, they both open as required i.e. NOT in folder view.

If however I click the Start Menu button then select either of them they
both open up in folder view as does Control Panel and Windows Explorer
!!!???. That I can't understand. Does this give you any further clues ??
