how to control colour and brightness

hi.it may seem a silly question(im new) but my colour and brighness is at max
on monitor but dont know how to change on hardware. im using windows xp home
edition,

Nikki, try rt clicking your Desktop>select Properties>Settings>Advanced.
Look for a Color Management Tab.
