I was trying to use Live CD of Ubuntu Linux ( original CD,
not a downloaded and burnt one).

I wanted to see the contents of this CD in Windows 98SE.
When I was going from folder to folder , the machine
started hanging and CD kept on rotating in the drive for
many minutes without stop.

There is no other way other than switching of the power.
My questions are :

1. Is it safe to switch off the computer
when CD is rotating in the drive ?

2. Is it safe to use the "Eject" button to take out the CD ?

3. How to stop the rotation of the disk inside in this situation ?

Thanks in advance .

Yes, because there is not physical contact between the CD and the pickup, and you can't corrupt the data by writing to a CDROM.

The eject button should stop the rotation and then open the drawer. If the eject button does not work, turn off the power, wait for the CD to stop spinning, and use a paper clip in the hole to manually eject the CD.
