I have had "Definition Update 1.14.1288.5 for BETA Windows Defender
(KB915597) installed by Windows Update seventeen (17) times since Feb 18,
2006. Each time it is reported as "Successful." However, within seconds, the
"Updates are ready for your computer" icon appears in the tray. Windows
Defender seemes to be working as expected. So my questions are: Did the
Definitions update? If not, how do I make it install properly? If so, how do
I eliminate the icon from the tray?

I'm trying to remember to use Signatures rather than definitions--but yes,
they are the same thing!
