in Explorer, when multiple files are selected (say for
example in Windows Explorer, a Search Results Window, a
regular folder, or even the desktop), a click of the enter
button will perform the default 'Open' action for every
file selected, opening them in their respective default
programs, precisely as you would expect.
Use the context menu on that group of files, however, and
absolutely nothing happens. This occurs for any number of
files greater than one (however using the context menu to
open a single file works fine), and occurs for files of the
one type (say, 3 .pdf files) or of mixed types (for
example, a .jpg picture and a .pdf file).
This problem only seems to affect actions that actually
open the files in a program, so actions such as 'cut',
'copy', and 'delete' all work fine on multiple files.
Therefore the 'Open' and 'Edit' commands are both affected,
but still work fine on one file at a time.
Like I said, pressing enter will perform the default action
on all the selected files with no problems; the issue is
with the context menu, and happens whether the mouse or
keyboard is used to bring it up.
Does anyone know of a way this problem can be fixed, or
some option to control whether multiple files can be opened
via the context menu?
This XP Install is only a few weeks old and is very clean,
with only basic utility, multimedia and analysis programs
installed, and a couple of games. It has only been
connected to the internet once to download updates.
This is not a massive problem but it is quite annoying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
