Contacts folders problems

I have tried several times to start over with my contacts folder from a prior
personal folders.

However, while the contacts folder that I am copying has all detail I need,
when I copy and paste it into the new personal folder, it works for a day
perhaps then the detail is missing again.

Yesterday I also found that e-mail information for one person was in the
contact of another. It seems to be corrupted/corrupting.

How do I start over without recollecting my contact information?

Could you clarify how you are transferring these Contacts from one file to
another?

Yes, I open the older personal folder that contains my full contact list. I
right click and choose the copy option and then past that in the new personal
folder.

I am running Outlook 2000. I have newer version but do not like it.

The correct way to transfer Contacts is to open the Contacts Folder, select
the entire contents, then use the Copy to Folder... command to direct them
to the correct folder.

If you continue to have problems after that, try repairing the PST file with
the Inbox Repair Tool.

I ran the inbox repair tool on this file about two weeks ago. It had reached
2 gb and I was able to reduce it by removing folders and only keeping what I
needed. It has been since then that contacts have been spotty. I will
actually have the name underlined in the to box and then there will be no
details, the e-mail addy anymore. That is why I have been copying my old
contacts from earlier files but keep having the fantom problem. Here they
are and they they are gone.

Oh my word. That's crucial information you left out. You have a completely
different problem, and not likely one you can solve now. Once a PST file
reaches 2G, there is no way you can "repair" it by simply removing items.
You must use a special utility to repair that file.

I have that program on my desktop. I have not used it. I had various
problems after running the scanpst, so was not too anxious to try another fix.

I have asked how to start a new file and use the existing settings, but
didn't find out how to do that. I'd like to start new file but will lose
folders and addresses, rules, etc.

Clarify what it is you'd like to try next. Your current PST file is toast
unless you run the correct utility. You can easily start over with a brand
new file by simply creating a new Outlook profile. You will need to recreate
your account settings manually. --
