Contacts folder not recognized

My Outlook 2003 addressbook is failing to recognize the contacts
folder. If I click on the addressbook it will respond "The address
list cannot be displayed. ...", and will then show me a empty list and
an ability to choose another contacts folder (upper right selection
box ... i.e., it shows 2 "contacts"). If I select the alternate
"contacts" the address list will show all contacts.

If I use the primary GUI to select "contacts", it shows all of my
contacts, and if I right-click for viewing/changing properties, it
already indicates it is being used for the addressbook.

If I use 'tools=>accounts' to "view change existing ... or
addressbooks", it shows 2 'contacts: personal folders' entries, but I
have no idea which to remove, and selecting either doesn't do anything
either. I have a feeling removing one of these will solve my problem,
but how do I know which one?

TIA )

Remove both and then reset your existing Contacts folder to be shown as an
email address book.
