Contacts Folder Disappears

From time to time, my contacts information will disappear, and I then
have to import the information from Outlook Express, which I had been using.
Also, in what may be a related problem, the contacts folder does not appear
under my personal folders list. Does anyone know what is causing this?

I am running Windows XP, SP2 on a Dell Dimension. I had been using
Outlook Express and imported the contacts information from the OE address
book. (It took several tries.) Also, my present profile is my second or
third profile. (I created the new profiles because I was getting error
messages stating that a personal folders file had failed to close.) Finally,
my pst file is located in a WordPerfect folder, rather than in the default
location.

You failed to post your Outlook version.
You failed to post your view.
Makes it impossible to help.
I doubt your Contacts are simply disappearing for no reason. It's never been
reported.

My version of Outlook is Outlook 2007. The view is "Contacts". Or, what may
amount to the same thing, when I click on Tools and Address Book, there are
no entries in the address book.

Not the same thing at all. I would not expect for you to see anything in the
Outlook Address Book until and unless you have configured it.
Start at the beginning. How did you migrate your data to this new
installation? How did you configure your Outlook Address Book?
Is your Contacts Folder empty? Note: your Contacts Folder is in Outlook, not
the address book view. Look there and report back.

This responds to your questions. I migrated the data to the new installation
by importing it from Outlook Express. I configured my OUtlook Address Book
by checking the box that says, "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book."
When the address book disappears, the contacts folder is empty. At
present, my address book has names in it, so that the contacts folder also
has names in it. But when my address book disappears, there is no contacts
information in Outlook.

Your description is not consistent with any known reality, probably because
you have still left out too much information. Fill in the blanks. Are we to
assume that you installed Outlook 2007 without ever having used Outlook
before on this partition? Are we to assume that you had a fully functional
installation of Outlook Express on this same partition from which you could
expect to import information? If so, how did you do so? Do we even know what
operating system you are using?

Here are the responses to your questions. Yes, I installed Outlook 2007
without ever having used Outlook before on this partition. I did have an
installation of Outlook Express, although some of the e-mail files had become
corrupted. As I noted in my prior response, I imported the address book
using the import feature of Outlook 2007. Also, as I noted in my initial
query, I am using Windows XP, SP2.

By the way, when I go to the page entitled "Personal Folders-- Outlook
Today", under the heading "Messages", it states that there are no contacts.
This is consistent with the fact that no contacts folder appears in the
Navigation Pane. But in fact, the contacts folder containes 361 entries.
Does that shed any light on the problem?

Yes. I don't see where you have a problem. You imported your Contacts from
OE and they are there. I already told you you needed to configure your
Outlook Address Book to show them. Did you do that?

The problem, as stated in my initial post, is that my addresses disappear
from time to time. Also, since the contacts folder is not listed under
personal folders, I'm concerned that backup up the pst file will not back up
the contacts folder. As for configuring the address book, I don't understand
what you mean or how it is done.
