I recently had to create a new profile to replace my clients existing corrupt
profile.

Now when he tries to use a distribution list he gets and error "the contacts
folder associated with this address list could not be opened".

Thanks for any suggestions on how to remedy this.

We would need to know Outlook version, information store, how you migrated
the information store to the new profile, and where this DL resides. Also
state how you configured the Outlook Address Book Service in the new
profile.

Hi Russ,

Outlook 2003 Business Edition

store is PST (converted to the new Unicode 2GB+ format), no Exchange involved.

I have no idea where the DL resides. It was created with
File/New/Distribution List before I created the new profile. I don't recall
configuring Address Book Service in the profile but I may have stumbled over
it.

I did follow these instructions from another website:

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address
books>Next. Select Outlook Address Book and click Remove. Stop and restart
Outlook. Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Add a new directory or address
book>Next. Select Additional Address Books and click Next. Select Outlook
Address Book and click Next. Click Finish. Stop and restart Outlook. Your
Contacts folder should not be reenabled as an address book, but if not,
right-click Contacts, choose Properties, select the Outlook Address Book tab
and check "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book". Click OK.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Error message indicates you have not yet connected the Outlook Address Book
Service to the user's Contacts Folder successfully. Those instructions will
work when followed correctly as long as you migrated the PST file correctly
to the new profile. Still need to know how you did that and what happened
when you followed these instructions.
