I'd kindly ask for some step by step help in bringing by Outllook 2002
contacts, calendar, task, and notes over to Outllook 2003. I've copied the
..pst file from the Outlook 2002, which is on a different computer. I screwed
something up thinking that i could just go to file/open in 2003 and tell it
to open the file from 2002 OL. NOT... In the folder list in 2003 I now have
two "Personal Folders". The first Personal Folder was apparantlly the
default one the installation of 2003OL makes and the second "Personal
Folders" seems to be the one I'm attempting to briing over.

I think i'd be happy if I could delete the original Personal Folders and
replace it with my Personal folders.. but OL will not allow me to do that
apparantly. I'm wondering if i should uninstall OL 2003, reinstall and then
follow the instrucitions you may give me here. I'll probably attempt to wait
for your kind advice!! Thanks

No, you're on the right track here. The only step you missed is setting the
opened pst-file as the default delivery location.
You can do this via;
Tools-> E-mail Accounts-> button Next-> dropdown list at the bottom
Restart Outlook and then see that your previous pst-file is set as the
default. You can then close the empty pst-file by right clicking on it and
choose Close.

However, since you made the conversion from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2003, it
would be better that you copied the content from the old pst-file to the new
(empty) one. This is because Outlook 2003 uses a new pst-file format
(UNICODE instead of ANSI). This offers international character support and
increases the file size limit to a virtual unlimited size instead of 2GB.

For step by step on how to migrate see;

Thank you kindlly ... I T H I N K I have finally done it... using your
directions and a little W-D40 I think i finally have my contacts, calanedar
and tasks into the "Personal Folders". I see my info in the directories
there. May I ask.. since the Personal Folders is the only directory and my
itmes are under it... does that mean automatically that the data has been
switched over to the new format PST? Should I do anything further to check
that?

Secondly, this whole project of installing Outlook 2003 on my New Vista
laptop was initiated due to the fact that my "smart phone" a Blackjack, needs
Outlook 2002 or better for importing or exporting contacts/calander infor
into phone. PROBLEM WAS...VISTA is not compatable with Outlook 2002~~~ Thus
a scramble to get Outllok 2003 onto the Vista so as to be able to synch info
withh phone!! UGGhhh Microsoftughhh. To add insult to injury.. the easy to
use Synch in XP is now replaced with Vista's Mobile Device Center. I'm
really keeping my fingers crossed that the WMDC works with my Blackjack and
then the new data in Outlook 2003 goes and syncs with my Blackjack!!! Thank
you for your help.. Toooo much technology!!! gotta love it

If you moved your items, then it will be in the new format. If you only
switched the default delivery location, then you are still in the old
format.
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/111

FWIW; I think WMDC is a good step ahead when compared to ActiveSync and
pretty much all the phones that support ActiveSync also support WMDC.
