I purchased a MS Fingerprint Reader (med DigitalPersona Password Manager 2.0).

It seems there we have a paradoks when signing in to Microsofts websites,
for instance LiveID, Hotmail and Windows Live OneCare Forum ect.

On MS Technical Support site
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...7946&x=12&y=12
it is possible to create an e-mail support case . During the process you are
asked to enter the PID of the Fingerprint Reader.

This is located on the bottom of the hardware-unit, in my case: PID
75810-600-2362735-00705 (It is actually stated as: PID 75810-600-2362735-0
then some space, and then the last four digits 0705)

I have tried to enter the above PID number several times, but the server
just returns the following message:
"The product ID number you entered is not valid or is not in the correct
format. Please enter a valid product ID number and try again. Make sure the
product ID number is of the form: 12345-XXX-7654321-98765."

The stated PID I have checked og rechecked. It is correct. As this is the
key to any further support I' m stuck and I do not know how to make it to
Technical Support.

Could anybody help this case to be submitted

The problem I want to submit to MS Technical Support sounds like this:

When browsing to e.g. the LiveID Sign In page:

https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...=1033&id=38936

the DigitalPersona Password Manager guides you through the steps to create a
digital fingerprint, to sign in. Here you can add the page to your Quick
Links in the Password Manager.

Next or later I want to do the same, by entering the sign in page for MSN
Hotmail (www.hotmail.com - which redirects you to this sign in page:
http://login.live.com/login.srf?id=2...=1030&_lang=EN)

You will notice that the two above log in pages you get redirected to, are
almost identical (http(s)://login.live.com/login.srf...ect.ect..)
This seems to "confuse" the password manager, as it indicates "The page has
changed since you created the fingerprint...ect..ect" and then it offers you
to update the fingerprint log in. But, by doing this it also indicates that
it will render the initial fingerprint (in this case for LiveID Sign In)
obsolete. In other words you cannot use the initial fingerprint from now on.

It seems that Microsoft attempts to gather all services to sign in from the
same sign in page. By doing so, it conflicts with the Fingerprint Password
Manager, so you will not be able to have a unique fingerprint for each MS
service you sign up or in for.

How do I get around this problem?

Hi Andrew.
The internet settings (programs tab) are set for Outlook, as this is what I
use for my email. I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. In regard to
..NET 1 & 2 I will check my LiveID account, as this is used to sign into my
Hotmail account. The OneCare forum uses an old NET passport as I signed up
here long before I created a liveID account. Could that be the cause?
I live in denmark, and I need a valid email address where I can explain the
problem to Support in regard to:
A. The PID problem as described
B. The login paradoks (Hotmail versus OneCare forum) related to the finger
print reader.
Could you possibly provide an email address to MS Tech Support?

Thanks
Anders
