After putting xp on my computer and doing all the updates, the computer keeps
accessing the Hard Drive about every 3 seconds and at the same time the Mouse
Pointer Busy hour glass keeps flashing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

it might be indexing files.

run services.msc and
look for the indexing service.

cycle it opposite of what it
is showing. if it is enabled, then
disable it or vice versa.

reboot and see if this helps.

ok.

check your virtual memory/pagefile
size. if it is too big or too small
you maybe be getting lots of
read writes to the hd.

go to control panel, system, advance,
performance, advance and click on
virtual memory button.

set the size to custom size for
a min of 2 and max of 1152, reboot
and see if this helps...
