Windows XP media centre/home edition

After installing a windows update by shutingdown my pc, the pc reboots
automatically. I tried "Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" but I get a blue
screen with the following error at the bottom

Stop: 0x000000ED (0x86697280, 0xC000014F,0x00000000,0x00000000)

I also tried Safe mode, last known good configuration and start windows
normally options but the result are constant reboots.

a)Is there a way to unistall the last windows update considering that I
cannot gain acces to my desktop? or

b) suggestions to recover my data from the hard drive?

c) any other suggestion to gain acces to the desktop or fix this problem?

Thanks

Boot the machine and enter the BIOS. Change the boot device order to put the
CD/DVD drive first. Save the settings and exit the BIOS. Put the XP install
disk in the drive and reboot the machine. Press any key to boot from CD when
prompted and enter the Recovery Console and run Chkdsk /r as explained in
this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302

If you don't have a real XP install CD, Google "download recovery console"
and make a Recovery Console disk.
