Do you think many people would do that?

If I can answer someones question then I usually will(time permitting),
regardless of the group it has been asked in. I might also recommend that
would be better asking in another group in future or for more detailed
information/a better answer, but it would be plain mean-spirited to not
answer the question if I could...

Simply because you would get a better choice of solutions in a group where
more people are 'specialists'. There is always more than just one way to
skin a cat..

Nope, what you do is spoon-feeding and is not the way to properly
teach somebody. Cognitive learning, the only TRUE way to teach, is
done by guiding the student but making them find the answer
themselves. Your way does not teach them anything, and all they learn
is that if they whine out their question they will get an answer and
never learn to find out things for themselves. My way forces them to
dig out the answers themselves, making them self-sufficient. Oh, and
they truly LEARN the answer.

Of course if you knew anything about teaching and cognitive theory
you'd know this alreay.
