hi
i have win98 with IE6 and when i go to tools>internet options>connections
tab, it doesnt list any dial-up connections under the "dial-up and virtual
private network settings" box (eg. the box has been completely greyed out) .
i obviously have a dial-up connection but IE6 SP1 isnt recognising it.
how do i fix this please?
thanks

I'm sorry, but it is not 'obvious' to us that you are using a dial up
connection. Do you have dialup or do you have broadband? Are you on a
network? If you are on a network, is the affected PC the host pc controlling
internet connection sharing or are you using a router? Is the 'add' button
greyed out on the connections tab?

Hi there,

You will need to check the registry. The key in question is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel

Search for the DWORD Connwiz Admin Lock and set to zero.

FWIW I think that it is possible to make manual dial-up connections
which are not listed in that box. So then a factor that matters would be
what you haven't told us, e.g. are the Setup... and Add... buttons
associated with that dialog usable? If not can you use something
like an Internet Connection Wizard (perhaps under Programs, Accessories)
to create a new connectoid which does get added to that list?

Have you tried posting to a newsgroup which specializes in your OS?
I see this as more of an OS dependent issue than an IE only one.
Having someone who had the same UI to compare with could be
useful to you.

yes it is possible to make manual dial-up connections. The only button
available is "setup" but im unable to configure my dial-up through that or
through "Internet Connection Wizard".
thanks.
