Hi,

What am I missing here:

- have to computers (desktop/laptop), both running XP
Professional
- have ADSL connection to the Internet via a switch (3Com
OfficeConnect)
- PC number one is the desktop
- purchased the laptop recently, plugged it to the switch
and gained instant Internet access
- both computers are member of the same workgroup
- both computers are on the same subnet
- both computers running similar IP addresses (X.Y.Y.n)
- can ping from desktop to laptop, but not the other way
around (time out)

What do I have to do to share files between these two
machines?

Sincerely

Is there a firewall (including the inbuilt XP one) on either PC or laptop?

Regards

Yes, I'm running Norton Internet Security 2004 on the
desktop.

You mentioned earlier that both the PCs are on the same subnet/mask & in
the same workgroup, is that LAN subnet/mask defined in your firewall
trusted zone? If not try adding it to that zone and see if it helps. If
that doesn't work then uninstall NIS (you can re-install it later) and see
if you can connect to each PC. Post again with the results.

Regards

Bill
