Hi all,
I have a split MS Access database located on a server at my company.
The problem is that this database is really slow to work with. Today
I moved the database to a new server and now it works like a dream. As
far as I can see, there are 3 reasons why this might be.
1) It appears that many Access users have seen major performance
improvements simply by moving their database up a few folders in their
server's folder hierarchy. I have actually moved my database to a
different server, so I can't confirm if this is the solution to my
problem; not just yet. Previously my database was located 10 folders
deep, now its only 3. I don't have access to higher up folders on the
older server.
2) The speed of the new server. How can I establish my connection
speed to the old server and to the new server. I copied a 100Mb file
to both locations (on the old server and the new server). I then timed
how long it took my to download these files to my machine, and both
took approx. 15 seconds on multiple attempts. But there must be a
better way to test this...
3) The server traffic. I'm guessing this is one for the IT department
to shed light on... but my test does seem to suggest that number 1
above is the most likely problem...
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help,
Barry.
