Connection problems to MSN messenger 6

Hi,

I had windows messenger 4.6 working great on my machine.
I recently downloaded/installed MSN messenger 6 and now I
can't connect to either windows messenger 4.6 or MSN
messenger 6!

I need to get through a university proxy (port 80) with
authentication, but everything worked fine before. My
internet access is as normal, and I have set up MSN
messenger to use the proxy with my correct username and
password.

I can log in to my passport account on MSN and
passport.com, so the account seems to be fine. The
problem seems to be the connection from Messenger.

I got hit by the blaster virus and downloaded some
official patches from MS, but other than that nothing has
changed on my machine. Is it possible that the patches
messed something up? Or is it possible for the sysadmin
to block messenger specifically even though other traffic
works fine through port 80 on the proxy?

Please help me either via the newsgroup or email.

Thanks and regards
Gabor

"is it possible that the patches messed something up?"
Good question - judging by the number of people that have
this problem on these boards - then yes i would say its a
distinct possibility. Does anyone know how to solve
it ..no.
Its a "feature"!!!
