Is it possible to use Remote Desktop Connection software within XP (from the
XP machine) to then connect to a Windows 2000 machine?

I thought it might be possible after installing the client software from the
XP CD onto the W2K machine, but all that allowed me to do was connect to the
XP from the W2K machine, but not the other way around.

Any help appreciated!

Yes, you can connect to Windows 2000 machine running Windows 2000 Server
software.

Look at UltraVNC as an alternative...

Get the server, client, encryption plug-in and the XP video driver from...

You installed the CLIENT and expected it to then act as a SERVER? *grin*

Unless you are running Windows 2000 Server - you cannot use Terminal
Services to remote into the Windows 2000 box.
You can use a third party product (like UltraVNC) to gain remote control of
the box - but not TS.

Thank you everyone for your assistance.

I guess I got so use to using W2K's NetMeeting that I thought XP's Remote
Desktop Connection was one in the same and should have been backwards
compatible.

I'll go check out UltraVNC as was suggested. Thanks again.

XP's Remote Desktop Client is "backwards compatible" with Windows 2000
server's Terminal Services - meaning you can use the Windows XP Remote
Desktop Client to connect to Windows 2000 Server's Terminal Services server.
Netmeeting and Terminal services never were in the same league or production
thread or actually - intended purpose.

And installing the Remote Desktop Client (as you said you did) onto Windows
2000 just installed the CLIENT - as it stated - not the server component..
And there is no way to install the server component on anything - it is
either built in (Remote Desktop or Terminal Services) or it isn't.. And in
Windows 2000 Wokstation - it isn't.

I think that is your best option. It is as good if not better in many ways!
