I've solved the problem, but the situation isn't resolved yet.

I have two computers on one wireless router. A desktop running Windows
XP and a laptop running Windows XP. The desktop is running a wireless
network card and has a local lan connection.

There are two computers on another (non-wireless) router. One running
Windows 98 and another running Windows 2000. Both are using local lan
connections (not wireless in other words).

The setup is the ip's is this:

The second router (non-wireless) has an ip address of 192.168.1.1 and
is also the router were I have my DSL/Cable internet connection. The
second router has an ip address of 192.168.2.1

When I try to ping the second router from the first, it says
destination net unreachable. I changed the first router to
192.168.1.254. In both instances I used the routing address as the
gateway to the other routers with no success until I changed the
gateway to 192.168.1.1.

Suddenly it worked, what happened?

I'm using Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G router on the first one and D-link
DI-604 Non Wireless router on the second.


Cable/DSL Router
Suddenly I get internet and computer names in Windows.

The IP address of the router with the DSL modem attached is the gateway
IP for all computers on the network. And all devices on the network
must have the first three IP address numbers the same. In your case,
192.168.1. and the same subnet mask, probably 255.255.255.0.

But, you didn't say how you have connected the two routers. They should
be connected via LAN ports, the WAN port on the wireless router will be
unused. And you may need to use a crossover cable, not a straight
through cable unless one of your routers can use straight. And you will
have to disable DHCP on the wireless router and assign static IP
addresses.
