Hello,

I am having trouble connecting to a share on an AS/400
machine. It was working just fine but suddenly it will
not connect. When I try and open the share I get the
follwing message: "An error occurred while reconnecting E:
to \\<servername>\<share>. Microsoft Windows Network: The
local device name is already in use. This connection has
not been restored."

If I try and re-map the drive I get the following
message: "The mapped network drive could not be created
because the following error has occurred: The remote
computer is not available."

I have tried to access the shares on the AS/400 via
software and I get a message that is too long to type in
but the jist of it is that the AS/400 server is not known
to either a DNS in my network or to my local LMHOSTS file
or the DNS is not available. It the told me to try and do
one of the following: Check the status of my DNS and add a
new entry for the AS/400 server or and the entry to the
LMHOSTS file.

Here is my problem. I am very green when it comes to this
AS/400 and to the DNS on our network. How can I check the
status of the DNS and add a new entry if I need to? Any
help on this is going to be greatly appreciated as I am at
a total loss as to how to rectify this problem.

Thank you in advance.

Chris

Use the DNS console open the forward lookup zone for your domain click new
host give it the name of the AS/400 and the IP address needed to access the
AS/400.
Then use the FQDN to map your drives i.e. \\as400.domain.com\share
