Connecting to a server by name

I have a Cisco ASA firewall that allows me to VPN into our company domain.

When I'm in the domain, I can ping any computer or connect to it through
terminal server by using the computer IP address.

Is there anything I can do so that I can connect to computer by its computer
name? If I try to ping a computer name, the DNS can not resolve it. Is
there a host file I can edit that can reference the computer name and it's
corresponding IP address?

I'm on Windows XP.

Thanks,
Jasper

Talk to your administrator. If he adds the LAN DNS and WINS to the VPN
server, you should be able to access the remote computers by name. This how
to may help.
How to setup VPN
How many inbound dial-in connections are supported How to add DNS and
WINS into your Cisco VPN server How to assign a static IP to VPN client ...

I have not used VPN in a while,
but I think once connected you can ping names
using
ping computername
(no \\ before the name)
I am not sure if that is how it worked since it has
been a long time since I have done such.
Maybe?
