i am running xp home edition SP2 and i can't get the remote access to
connect. I have both my desktop and my laptop in a workgroup together. but
i get the common error about how the connection cannot be established and
that the computer i am trying to connect to may be too busy and all that
garbage. what do you think my problem is?? for kicks i turned off all
security on both computers, i checked the box on both for accepting remote
access.
I can however ping from one to another both directions. and i can setup my
laptop to print to my desktop printer. but i just cant seem to access my
desktop remotely??? any ideas?

What do you mean by "Remote Access"?

Windows XP Home Edition does not have Remote Desktop - only Remote
Assistance.

If you want Remote Desktop features - you have to use a third party product
(UltraVNC, TightVNC, etc) to achieve it or upgrade to Windows XP
Professional.

The basic difference is that remote assistance is requested by a "novice"
and the "expert" can then connect to the computer to view and ASK for
control. There are other derivatives of this scenario - but you cannot use
MSTSC(Remote Desktop Client) in any of them to make a Remote Assistance
Connection.

yeah i knew that remote assistance was a connection to get help. but my xp
home has remote desktop located in my accessory\communication menu. but
recently read somewhere that the xp home can connect to a computer running xp
pro, but a computer running xp home cannot connect to a computer running xp
home. which basically sucks. lol
