Greetings all,

My old comp died about a month ago but I'm quite sure the
HDD is fine, is there anyway I can connect the old HDD to
my new PC? Preferably without going inside my new PC.

Some quick stats:

OLD PC: Windows '98, Compaq, the problem is that it goes
on but it doesn't come up on the moniter (which is in
perfect working order).

NEW PC: XP Home, HP.

I am rather desperate for the info on the old PC, so any
help is much appreciated.

Just connect it to the third connector on the ribbon cable
used for your existing hard disk. If you don't have three
connectors, buy a ribbon cable with three connectors,
making sure that it is long enough to reach both disks.

You must also set the master/slave jumper on the old
disk to "slave". Check the legend on the cover of the
old disk for instructions.

If your "new" PC is really new then it will "discover" the
old disk automatically. If it is not so new then you must
get into the BIOS and tell it that you now have two disks.
On many PCs you get into the BIOS by pressing the
Delete key at boot time.
