connecting to the net with Windows XP

My computer doesn't allow me to connect to adsl using ubs
port and now I haev to buy network card...Why is this????I
don't see what the problem is with having xp that I keep

Did you install any software that came with the modem BEFORE
you connected the USB DSL modem?
