I have a 2 computer network, connected by a crossover cable, set up
between my Laptop (XP Pro supplied) and a Desktop (XP Home) computer.
The Desktop has a shared Dial Up Connection which I would like to have
the Laptop to use to connect to the Internet. But the Laptop will not
recognize the shared connection as enabled or connected when it is
connected on the Desktop and it won't connect. The Laptop has its own
Dial Up connection for use when it is on the road and not connected to
the Desktop. That works fine. Both machines run behind XP's firewall.

On the Desktop, I have 'Allow other network users to connect through
this computer's Internet Connection', 'Establish a dial up
connection....' and 'Allow other network users to control.....' all
checked. But still the Laptop's OE6 and IE6 will not connect to the
Internet through the Desktop. A few days ago, as I recall, OE6 would
connect but not IE6. Now neither connect. Go figure.

This simple network seems to work just fine in all other respects.

Can someone suggest anything else I need to do to get the Laptop to
connect to the internet through Desktop? Easily 90% of the time this is
what I want to do. Rarely do I have the need to connect through the
Laptop's own Dial UP.

Thank you very much.

Are you running a software firewall on the desk top? I had this problem and it was caused by Zone Alarm running on the interenet computer (Note Zone Alarm Pro works OK but is not free

Thank you.

Good point. I should have mentioned that the only firewall is XP's.
