connecting internet pc to an intranet

Our network of 40 Win2k pc's is connected via a routerconnection with the
intranetserver of our employer (an optical fibre cable does the trick). To
accomplish this they added a gateway in TCP/IP properties of the NIC and DNS
addresses. To make the connection with the intranetserver we just have to
enter the address (http://174.28.28.044) in Internet Explorer. This works
fine.
However, one pc had (and still has) an independant internet connection via
external USB modem. I introduced the same TCP/IP settings for the NIC, but
for some reason, when I enter the above address in IE, it searches for it on
the internet and not on the intranet. Is there a way to correct this?
Thanks!
