Connecting HP 720c printer to USB port on XP Operating System

's Computer Specifications

Just purchased a parallel to USB cable to connect old HP 720c Deskjet printer
to USB port on PC with XP OS. I get printer to show ready in control panel
but cannot get any printing to work. I have re-sarted PC and printer several
times. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
